Further study
Further study is an increasingly popular option and may be undertaken to qualify for professional recognition, enhance employment opportunities, or for personal interest. To explore the benefits of further study, it is worth speaking to professional bodies or employers in the career or industry you are aiming to enter. They will be able to inform you of the courses recognised in that profession and the requirements to gain professional recognition. Many Professional Associations have further study information on their websites.
The Careers Resource Centre (CRC) has a database called OZJAC on the kiosk computers, and is a good starting point for course information. It has information on all courses at universities and TAFEs around Australia. Detailed information on courses can then be accessed via the individual university and TAFE websites. The further study section of the CRC has a small collection of directories for courses at universities and TAFEs as well as some handbooks of individual institutions.
The Melbourne Model
From 2008, the University will introduce a landmark educational reform known as The Melbourne Model. It is designed to create an outstanding and distinctive Melbourne Experience for all students. In moving to this model, the University is responding to the challenges of today's changing environment as well as aligning itself with the best of European and Asian practice and North American traditions.
Course advice
The best source of information about courses and research is the relevant faculty. Each faculty has Course Advisers and it is usual to make an appointment to see them. The best starting point is the relevant faculty office where staff will advise you about seeing a Course Adviser if they cannot answer your query.
