Career planning

Career planning model

Career planning is an important process that can help you choose a satisfying and rewarding career path. It is not a process that stops once you leave University. On the contrary, you will find that the skills you use now to plan and develop your career will be useful for a lifetime!

A cyclical model reflects the need to adapt to change and continually reassess where you’re at, taking into consideration:

Get to know yourself through self-assessment. Are you aware of your skills, interests and goals?

Explore your options. Have you researched the jobs, careers and employers that interest you?

Making decisions. Have you made some choices about careers to pursue? Have you set some goals and developed strategies to achieve them?

Moving on. Have you acted on your decision or have you changed your mind? As your direction changes, re-visit this process again… and again!
