Child Care Advisory Committee
Recognising that substantial numbers of staff and student members of the University have parental obligations
and can be assisted to achieve their potential as staff and students through the provision of child care
arrangements, the Child Care Advisory Committee has been established.
Membership of the Committee
- A nominee of the Vice-Chancellor who chairs the Committee
- The Vice Principal and Academic Registrar
- The President University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) or nominee
- The President of University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association (UMPA) or nominee
- The Equal Opportunity Coordinator
- The Chair of the Management Advisory Committee
- Three members of the University who are users of University child care services, of whom
- one is a staff member, nominated by the Senior Vice Principal
- one is an undergraduate student, nominated by the President, UMSU
- one is a postgraduate student, nominated by the President, UMPA
Up to two members co-opted by the Committee who have expertise in the provision of child care services,
one of whom is an academic member of the Centre for Equity and Innovation in Early Childhood (CEIEC) in the
Faculty of Education.
Terms of Reference
- To provide feedback and advice to council and the Vice-Chancellor on policy matters for child care.
- To keep under review and as necessary, advise on the structure and operations of child care services on all
campuses of the University of Melbourne
- To advise on medium and long term planning for the provision of child care for students and staff of the
University
- To monitor and advise on external developments in child care services and their implications for the
University
- To make recommendations on policies and practices which will assist in the optimal provision of child care to
University users
- To supervise the conduct of a program of quality assurance for child care provided by the University
- To receive reports from the University's Child Care Management Advisory Committee through the Manager who has
executive responsibilities for the Centres
- To monitor the performance of the University's Children's Services
