Christopher Heelan

Chris Heelan has joined the CIE from Curtin University of Technology where he was undertaking a two-year secondment to the Office of Teaching & Learning working as a Senior Lecturer/Curriculum Developer with the C2010 Project, this project focused on implementing the course-related objectives of Curtin’s Teaching and Learning Enabling Plan (TLEP). Prior to this appointment, Chris held a variety of Academic positions at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS), Curtin University. Positions included Lecturer, Academic Coordinator of the Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies Program, Deputy Director and Dean, Teaching & Learning for CAS.
In 2004, Chris along with colleagues from the Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies Program team (Curtin University) won the Neville Bonner Award for Indigenous teaching within the Australian Awards for University Teaching. Prior to working at Curtin, Chris completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences, and a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Studies. Chris is currently completing his Masters in Human Rights, and will complete in 2009.
Growing up in Geraldton and Perth, Chris, his wife and two children decided to make a change and move to the “city of four seasons in one day”, Melbourne at the beginning of 2008. Chris has an active interest in politics, Indigenous issues and supporting the West Coast Eagles.
Chris looks forward to his time at the Centre for Indigenous Education (CIE) as the General Manager and to the success of all Indigenous students at the University of Melbourne.
