Academic Enrichment Services Centre for Indigenous Education

Community

The Centre for Indigenous Education acts as a central hub in the University for many things relating to Indigenous education and culture. As our website artwork shows, “University seeds of knowledge are being planted in the minds of future Indigenous leaders” and we believe it is a reflection of the Centre's commitment to the support and education of Australia's Indigenous people. Find out more on our web artwork and Artist Jirra Harvey below.

Welcome to Country

To find out further information on Indigenous protocols in relation to Welcome to Country are wide and diverse and will vary according to region and locality.

Indigenous Units

The University has had a long history of Indigenous involvement of education, research and support of Indigenous students and academics via various Indigenous Units located within the University. Prof Ian Anderson's Indigenous health research unit is one exemplary example. Many Indigenous academics teach under the Australian Indigenous Studies Program now located within the School of Communication and Culture and the outreach programs run by the Academy of Sport Health and Recreation located in Shepparton.

Find out more on what each unit does on our Indigenous Units page along with some affiliated organisations.

Alumni

The Centre is proud of the many achieving students who have graduated from the University of Melbourne. From our first graduate Margaret Williams in 1972, there have been many before us who have graduated and have gone on to achieve greater things wihtin their communities. The Centre celebrates our rich history through an ongoing exhibition called “More than a Pice of Paper” and is located wihtin the Centre.
