The Australia 2020 Summit's opening address was by Indigenous University of Melbourne Law student Sana Nakata. Sana has completed her Bachelor of Arts/Laws (hons) in 2006, and is currently completing her PhD. Whislt staying at Trinity College she has excelled and has become an ispiration for many that will follow in her footsteps.

12 MAY 2008, Indigenous Medical Students

Urgent action is needed to get more Indigenous students into university medical schools if Australia is to succeed in closing the Indigenous health gap by 2030, a University of Melbourne academic has warned. Chair of Indigenous Health at the University of Melbourne, Professor Ian Anderson, says that with Australian Indigenous Doctors Association figures showing there are only 125 Indigenous medical practitioners in Australia, there is a serious shortfall of about 800 Indigenous doctors.

22 APRIL 2008, CLOSE THE GAP

The University has recently signed the Oxfam Australia "Close the Gap" pledge in support of a campaign to raise awareness of the poor health outcomes of Indigenous Australians. We would like students to be aware of the initiative and to have an opportunity to sign the pledge as individuals. 12 FEBRUARY 2008, APOLOGY TO ALL INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS

As apart of the Federal Government's move to apologise to the stolen generations, the University's VC Glynn Davis has also taken the steps to recognising Australian Indigenous people as the original inhabitants and the injustices that have been apparent since colonisation. “The University records its deep regrets for the injustices suffered by the Indigenous people of Australia as a result of European settlement.”
