ARC Discovery Indigenous Research Development Now Open

The Australian Research Council’s (ARC) Discovery Indigenous Researchers Development scheme is open to provide support for indigenous researchers to undertake research projects that may lead to an understanding of a particular subject or that may meet the requirements of their postgraduate research degrees. To be eligible to apply for funding, researchers must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. It is strongly recommended that a Mentor (who does not need to be an Indigenous Australian) be associated with the proposal to provide expert advice on the subject of the research. Researchers do not have to hold a PhD to apply, but must have completed a postgraduate research degree or demonstrate equivalent research capacity and experience. Applications must be submitted to the Melbourne Research Office by 29 April for review. Researchers must request a minimum of $10,000 pa with a maximum of $200,000 over the life of the project for up to 3 years. Further information can be obtained from Melinda Heron at mheron@unimelb.edu.au at the Melbourne Research Office.

The Centre of Indigenous Education will be hosting a seminar with the Melbourne Research Office about how to apply for this scheme, so we strongly urge you to attend.

When: Tuesday 7 April
Time: 1.00-2.00pm

12 FEBRUARY 2008, APOLOGY TO ALL INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS

As apart of the Federal Government's move to apologise to the stolen generations, the University's VC Glynn Davis has also taken the steps to recognising Australian Indigenous people as the original inhabitants and the injustices that have been apparent since colonisation. “The University records its deep regrets for the injustices suffered by the Indigenous people of Australia as a result of European settlement.”
