Current Programs

The Centre for Indigenous Education is currently engaged in the following programs specifically aimed towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Melbourne. Further information for each program can found below:

BA Extended

The Bachelor of Arts (Extended) runs over four years. The course facilitates a supported transition to University through the provision of an additional study year specifically designed to develop appropriate academic skills for success at university. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will access specialised academic support through bridging subjects provided in key areas such as academic literacy, communication and performance, literature, philosophy and environmental studies. These subjects will be taught by Trinity College Foundation Studies program in co-operation with staff from the Faculty of Arts, the University's Centre for Indigenous Education and the Academic Skills Unit. In addition, students will be supported through the Centre for Indigenous Education as well as residing at one of the colleges affiliated with the University of Melbourne. The course is a unique experience and provides a great opportunity for students to immerse themselves in university life.

Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS)

The Centre administers a tailored tutorial assitance program for Indigenous students that supplements a student's formal education. We provide tutors in various fields to provide individual or group tution aimed at increasing the students ability to achieve. The Centre is always looking for tutors to register and provide tuition to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Scholarships Program

The Scholarship Program is aimed at providing financial and in kind support to Indigenous Australian students undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate awards at the University of Melbourne and affiliated institutions through a program of scholarships, bursaries and awards that seeks to increase participation and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students during their higher education.

Student Support Program

The Student Support Program consists of providing access to University services, pastoral care, career development and also encompases both the ITAS and Scholarship Programs.
