Scholarships
The University of Melbourne has a large number of scholarships and bursaries (currently there are around 30 different ones, some funding multiple students) for Indigenous students. Each scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, academic merit, and future aspirations by a committee. The Indigenous Scholarship program is administered by the Melbourne Scholarships Office, in conjunction with the Centre for Indigenous Education.
The scholarships are varied in their terms and conditions and can cover a number of different things. In 2010, scholarships will be available for:
* Living Allowances
* Course Fees
* Board and meals in residential colleges
* Relocation and accommodation
* Study equipment such as computers, books, art materials etc
* Travel
The Centre for Indigenous Education promotes a suite of scholarships. Applications generally open at the beginning of the academic year, and close at the beginning of April. Throughout the year, there will also be various bursaries and external scholarships available, and these will be advertised as they come up.
To apply for the scholarships, download the application form from this webpage. All scholarship applications need to be accompanied by:
* Proof of Indigenous status documentation
* Budget and financial statements
* Academic results and/or proof of enrolment
* Personal statements.
Further help can be sought from the Recruitment and Engagement Officers at the CIE. A number of Faculties and Residential Colleges also offer scholarships and bursaries specifically for Indigenous Australians.
