INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIP
ISABELLA INA OLDHAM Scholarships
Open for application, closing on 9/06/2009
Isabella Ina Oldham Scholarships are a one-off payment, and can be awarded
for any of the following:
- Travel expenses for fieldwork or conference participation
- Contribution towards fees paid by graduates for enrolment in postgraduate certificates and diplomas
- Contribution toward tuition fees
- Contribution to the costs of production of outputs by visual arts students in the form of sponsorship of a film, exhibition, performance or publication, such as poetry
- Contribution towards technology expenses, e.g. the purchase of a laptop computer
- Contribution towards the expenses associated with establishing a professional library
- Socio-economic welfare support e.g. support for childcare expenses, rental subsidy, yearly Melbourne Met Link travel and regional travel.

The Bruce C Hartnett Award is a book or housing allowance available to Indigenous students at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Selection is based on:
- Financial need
- A statement about how the Bruce C. Hartnett Indigenous Bursary will assist applicants with their studies

THE NORTHCOTE TRUST BOOK VOUCHERS
Open for application from the 16/2/09, closing on the 20/3/09
Ten $500 book vouchers are available to undergraduate or graduate Indigenous students.
Selection is based on:
- Proof that applicants are of Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Financial need
- For new students, proof of successful academic progress as indicated by ENTER or other measurement of academic success in the final year of schooling
- For continuing undergraduate students, satisfactory progress in the preceding year’s course
- For graduate students, a letter of support from their supervisor

Up to three scholarships are available to Indigenous applicants at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Selection is based on:
- Being demonstrably prepared to identify as an Aboriginal person and represent the community. This could be demonstrated by, for example, a positive contribution to and interaction with CIE or another sector of the Indigenous community.
- The ability to be a good role model.
- The applicant’s potential to achieve, including his/her academic performance.
- The level of financial need.

Indigenous Postgraduate Capacity Building Research Bursary

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences is pleased to offer bursaries for Indigenous Australians for postgraduate coursework programs and or PhD research degrees to provide financial support for students of Indigenous Australian descent.
BenefitsPartial or full fee remission will be available to eligible students within coursework programs, whilst PhD candidates may receive a bursary of up to $8000. The extent of fee remission and bursary amount will depend on the number of eligible students applying in any given year.
DurationStudents undertaking a full fee paying certificate, postgraduate diploma or masters by coursework program with the intention and potential to lead to a higher degree by research may receive the bursary for the standard duration of the course they are undertaking. Phd candidates may only receive a bursary for the year of which they have applied. No extensions to the fee remission bursary for coursework students will be possible, whilst PhD candidates may re-apply each year.
Eligibility CriteriaBursaries are available to Indigenous Australians.
Applicants must be planning to commence or be currently enrolled in a postgraduate program in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne.
Applicants must fulfil selection criteria, and be accepted in an approved course.
Applicants must also provide written referees as a part of the application process.
