Anxiety
The Anxiety Panic Internet ResourceThis is a not for profit US service which includes an online chat facility.
This is an extensive article describing the range of symptoms and all possible treatment options.
All treatment options are critically evaluated. A serious and somewhat academic offering but very
comprehensive.
Treating panic, anxiety, depression and tranquilliser dependency. This organisation runs individual and group programs in Melbourne. Has discounted fees for students.
This site has useful information and a good listing of support groups available in Victoria.
Excellent site run by St Vincent's Hospital Sydney and University of New South Wales. Offers research information and self help material.
Body Image
Body PositiveThis site promotes positive attitudes to body image. It has exercises which encourage you to examine your attitudes to your body and your eating behaviour.
Depression
ANU’s MoodGYMANU have developed a comprehensive interactive site which offers cognitive behavioural ideas for working with depression and anxiety. It is easy to use and has lots of opportunities for tailoring the ideas to your particular issues.
Dark Side of the MoodThis is on the ABC website and covers a range of topics including:
- What is depression?
- Are you depressed?
- What can you do?
- Antidepressants;
- Therapy;
- Alternative treatments.
Australian information and networking service. Lots of interaction and debate.
This is the Australian site which looks at depression. The fact sheets are good, especially the one on managing your sleep cycle.
The part of the site which is aimed at young people is called Ybblue. There is a lot of input from young people.
The Black Dog Institute, a clinical, research and educational body dedicated to improving understanding, diagnosis and treatment of depression and bipolar disorder (formerly called manic depression in severe cases). It is Australian.
Drug & Alcohol Use
Do It NowThis site provides extensive information about drugs.
Interactive site coming from Columbia University. Has lots of Q&A on a wide range of issues including drug
and alcohol use.
This is a terrific university based site which generates resources on alcohol use. It has a lot of very interesting and very user friendly information on how much alcohol is “safe” and what the immediate, short term and longer term consequences of alcohol use are. It really encourages protective behaviours and talks about staying in the “Pleasure Zone” rather than the “Zone of Regret”.
Centre for Excellence in Eating Disorders
This is part of the centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Good list of treatment options.
The Eating Disorders Foundation of Victoria (EDFV) is a non-profit incorporated association founded in the mid 1980's to support those whose lives are affected by eating disorders, and to better inform the community about these disorders.
Gambling
Gamblers's HelpGambler's Help is a statewide service funded by the Department of justice, which provided free, confidential problem gambling counselling, financial counselling and community education. There are Gambler's Help services in every metropolitan region and most rural/regional areas of Victoria including the city (based at 69 Bourke Street). The services also offer a variety of comprehensive self-help materials and other materials.

Mental Health
Dr Bob Mental Health LinksThis is a site which comes out of the University of Chicago Department of Psychiatry. Dr Bob is Robert Hsuing, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry.
The site has an enormous collection of mental health related information. It is worth a wander through and a look.
A South Australian site promoting information about mental health for young people, their parents and workers.
Good collection of links on websites providing free information and help about specific disorders related to psychology
Resources
Infoxchange Australia Services SeekerThis is a directory of health and support services in Australia put together by a group called “Technology for Social Justice”. All services listed are run by not for profit or government agencies. You can search for service by topic, eg “youth”.
Self Harm
If you self harm you need to speak to someone in person. We strongly encourage you to make and appointment at the Counselling Service.

The Columbia University website has a very good interactive site which looks at a range of issues including sexuality.

This is an American site. The articles section is useful, especially on the emotional stresses and time management.
This is a site were people who are struggling to finish their theses support one another. The FAQ section has good material on procrastination and relationships with supervisors. There is a great section on archived discussions.
