Mental Health Week
Victorian Mental Health Week is an annual event that takes place during the first full week of October and has been running since 1982.
As part of Mental Health Week, the Counselling Service has organised some events on campus to commemorate the week. The activities planned are:
Introduction to Mental Health - Free seminar for Students and Staff
Overview :
- a brief overview of the concepts of mental illness/mental wellbeing
- an introduction to brain chemistry discussion about the main categories of mental illnesses
- mood disorders
- anxiety disorders
- psychosis
- personality disorders
- causes of mental illnesses
- treatment options for mental illnesses

Launch of the University of Melbourne's Mental Health Strategy
This key initiative within the University will officially be launched by the Provost, Professor John Dewar. Following this, a keynote address, Mental Health and Meaning, will be presented by Dr Paul Valent, Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and Traumatologist.
