Making an AppointmentContact the DLU and make an appointment with a Disability Liaison Officer (DLO). It is often best to do this prior to the commencement of semester - particularly if you are likely to require Academic Support Workers and/or accessible formats. At your first appointment you will be required to provide medical documentation from an appropriate treating professional. For further information on medical documentation go to Documentation required by Students with Disabilities : DOC : 114KB. Depending on the nature of your condition, you may be required to provide subsequent medical documentation. In order to identify appropriate services, DLU staff will need to develop a more complete picture of you than that provided solely from medical documentation. Topics such as previous work/life/study experience, academic program, assessment methods, generic university services, confidentiality and disclosure are usually discussed. The goal of most consultations between students and DLU staff is to identify the impact of a disability on study and adjustments that maximise opportunities for equitable and independent participation. |
