Quiet Spaces on Campus

At times the Parkville campus can feel overwhelming both in size and due to the volume of people around. If you are someone who benefits from having time away from the crowd, you may be interested in the following spaces.

Rowden White Library is a recreation library situated on the second floor of the Union building. It has a number of spaces which are used for different purposes. Students can listen to CD's, read in the quiet lounge, borrow books & DVD's among a range of other things. Internet printing is also available. The library is open Mondays- Fridays.

System Garden is located between the Botany, Zoology and Land and Food Resources buildings. This is usually a quiet and restful place. Shelter is available in the White Tower.

Around the College Oval is perhaps the quietest place on campus. There are park benches scattered around the oval with some shelter under trees or in the Grandstand.

The Periodical Lounge in the basement of the Baillieu, has a number of lounge chairs and couches set up for quiet reading. The space is adjacent to study spaces so it can still get a bit busy.

Elizabeth Murdoch Building, Internal Courtyard is a quiet space built around a statue of Zeus. Cinema studies students collect here for a ciggie, but otherwise very little traffic.

There are garden areas between the Richard Berry building and the DLU which once lectures have started are fairly quiet.

University Square is a green and leafy park between the main campus and the Law Buildings. It has great trees and benches scattered around. It's a lovely spot to watch the world from on a nice day.

In and around Union House there are pockets of quieter spaces.
