University access programsAccess MelbourneAccess Melbourne, a special entry and scholarships scheme, was introduced in 2005, in recognition of the fact that some students have faced educational disadvantage based on a range of circumstances. One fifth of all undergraduate Australian places are reserved for eligible students who have applied through Access Melbourne. In this way, the scheme actively helps to increase the number of students from educationally, socially or financially disadvantaged backgrounds. Advice for prospective studentsIndigenous studentsThe Centre for Indigenous Education's Future Students page contains links about choosing courses and applying for university, and invites prospective students to contact them for advice and information. Rural studentsThe New to Melbourne website has information about housing and financial aid, links to student services and advice about preparing for the move to Melbourne. Students with disabilitiesThe Disability Liaison Unit's Future Students page contains advice about application, entry and preparation for university. International Student recruitmentThe Future International Students website provides comprehensive information for overseas students wishing to undertake study at Melbourne, including pathways to the University. ScholarshipsThe University's range of scholarships helps provide access to higher education for undergraduate and postgraduate students who might otherwise be unable to study because ofsocioeconomic, cultural and other disadvantages. Those with a specific equity focus include Melbourne Access Scholarships, Commonwealth Learning Scholarships, and Postgraduate Equity Scholarships. There are also scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate International students. |
