External Examinations

Terms and Conditions

  1. On the day of their examinations, candidates should report to the Student Administration Office no later than 9:00am for morning examinations and 1:00pm for afternoon examinations.
  2. Where permitted, reading time for examinations will start at 9:15am for morning sessions and 1:15pm for afternoon sessions.
  3. External Exam students who have exams at the University of Melbourne must confirm their attendance by completing the online ATTENDANCE CONFIRMATION FORM. This is a mandatory requirement.
  4. Students who do not intend to present for an examination should inform their home institution immediately.
  5. Only students who cannot present for their examinations should contact (by email) the External Examinations Coordinator at least 24 hours before the date of the exam.
  6. At least 24 hours notice is required of a student's non-attendance from a scheduled examination. Where possible, this information should be provided from the home institution. Where 24 hours notice or longer is advised, there will be no charge for the cost of the examination for that student.
  7. The University will invoice institutions directly for the cost of all examinations as soon as possible after the official examination period. Terms are payment in AUD$ within 30 days of the date of issue of the invoice.
  8. Institutions will be invoiced the full cost of any examination where a student fails to attend and the University has not been given at least 24 hours notice.
  9. It is the responsibility of the home institution to ensure that examination papers and material are sent in a timely manner to the External Examinations Coordinator.
  10. The home institution should forward the External Examinations Coordinator an electronic spreadsheet with the candidates' full details, including student number and name, subject code and title, date and time of exam and the length of the examination (writing and reading time).
  11. Examination papers and material should be clearly labelled with the subject code and title, the scheduled date, time and length of the examination, and detailed instructions for the invigilator.
  12. Where possible, the institution should provide self-addressed envelopes for the return of scripts. The University will return completed examination scripts to the home institution as soon as possible following the examination. The University will advise by email or fax the date of dispatch of the scripts. The University will not photocopy the scripts.
  13. The University will not transmit examination results to the student. Transmission of results to students is the responsibility of the home institution.
