Fees

University of Melbourne Students – Billing Arrangements.

The University Health Service "Direct-Bills" services for students of the University whenever possible, meaning no charge to the patient for the consultation (in most instances). When you present your valid Medicare (local student) or OSHC Worldcare (International student) card, these entities pay the doctor directly.

OSHC Worldcare is the preferred Private Health Insurance provider for overseas students and visitors at the University of Melbourne. OSHC Worldcare membership allows direct billing through this service. However, other Health Insurance companies do not provide direct billing through this service. Students covered by other Health Insurance companies will be charged a fee payable at the time of consultation. Most of this fee is rebated to the patient when claimed by the patient through their insurer.

Certain consultations, such as medical examinations for insurance purposes or diving medicals, are not covered under this scheme and you will need to pay by cash or credit card. If your Medicare or OSHC Worldcare card is not valid, you may also be required to pay for the consultation.

University of Melbourne Staff – Billing Arrangements.

From the start of second semester 2008, medical consultations for University staff using the Health Service will no longer be bulk-billed and will attract a co-payment of approximately $20.00 above the Medicare rebate.  This rate represents a discount from normal private billing fees and will entail full payment at the time of consultation. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are available in the practice. If payment is not received on the day of service an additional non payment fee of $ 10.00 will also be charged.

Where staff choose to provide their bank details at the time of consultation, payment of the Medicare rebate component for the consultation will be credited to their bank account within two working days.

University staff with a Health Care Card will continue to be bulk-billed for these consultations.

Australian Residents

Australian residents are covered by Medicare. Students who are registered on their parents' Medicare cards are strongly advised to apply for a card of their own. Cards must be sighted on presentation for an appointment. You can apply for your own card at any Medicare office - you will need some form of identification such as your birth certificate or passport.
