Emergency House

What is the Emergency House?

The Emergency House is a place of refuge designed to assist University of Melbourne students who are experiencing a temporary housing crisis.

It is a residential property in Carlton. The address is kept private and secure. Rooms are furnished and linen is supplied. You are able to provide your own food and cook for yourself.

The Emergency House is strictly for genuine emergencies only. The maximum stay in the Emergency House is two weeks.

In order to assist students who are identified as being 'at risk', Student Housing Services maintains close links with other University services.

Am I Eligible?

If you are an enrolled student of the University of Melbourne and require Emergency Housing, please make an appointment to see the Student Housing Adviser (Access and Equity) at Student Housing Services.

During this appointment time, your needs will be assessed by the Student Housing Adviser (Access and Equity).

Offers of accommodation at the Emergency House are subject to the outcome of the assessment procedure and availability of accommodation at that time.

If the Emergency House is unavailable for any reason, the Student Housing Adviser (Access & Equity) may assist you with referrals to Community based services.
