Programs for new students

Academic Advice Day

Academic Advice Day is your first step as a student new to Melbourne. At this point you will receive the necessary information and advice to complete your enrolment, including subject advice.

This is also the best time to make sure you have your housing arrangements sorted out. We are running the following interactive workshops, focussed on helping you develop your house-hunting (and finding) skills.

Semester One 2009

Academic Advice Day 2: Thursday 19 Feburary 2009

Venue: Room 242, Alice Hoy Building

Session 1 (10am - 10:30am)
Housing Options Basics – What should you know before you start your search?

Session 2 (10:30am - 11am)
Everything you always wanted to know about share housing but were too afraid to ask – Practical tips on finding the best share house for you.

Session 3 - repeat session (3pm - 3:30pm)
Housing Options Basics – What should you know before you start your search?

Session 4 (3:30pm - 4pm)
Interview with a real estate agent – How to make your rental application stand out from the crowd.

Week 0: Orientation

Semester One 2009: Tuesday 24 February - Friday 27 February 2009

The University coordinates a Central Orientation Program for all commencing undergraduate and postgraduate students at the beginning of each semester. Orientation introduces you to campus life, to people, to new ways of teaching and learning and to the multitude of resources and support available at the University of Melbourne.

During Orientation, we will be running the following housing sessions. These are repeated sessions that were originally held on Academic Advice Days 1 & 2.

The Melbourne Welcome

The University's Melbourne Welcome program is an orientation program designed for new Study Abroad and Exchange students. The program is supervised by International Student Services and is held at the Residential Colleges.
