International Student Support
International Student Services (ISS) understands international students’ needs, concerns and interest. Regardless of whether you are a Study Abroad and Exchange student, AusAID student, or a full degree international student, we are here to help from your pre-departure right through to your returning home.
Pre-departure
- Planning, organising and delivering pre-departure information session
- Recruiting, interviewing and training student mentors and volunteers
- Liaising with key staff within and outside the University for students’ arrivals
- Updating and compiling information regarding living and studying in Australia for international students
- Assisting new international students with housing and airport reception
- Providing advice for international students with dependants (families)
- Liaising with key staff within the University to plan Orientation and Enrolment programs and activities
On Arrival
- Running AusAID Orientation programs and activities
- Running a Melbourne Welcome program for incoming Study Abroad and Exchange students
- Running International Student Briefings
- Liaising with key staff within the University to run Orientation and Enrolment programs and activities
- Managing the Orientation Welcome Centre
- Assisting new international students with settling into Melbourne and University life
- Providing assistance to international students who arrive late
- Reminding international students about the support services available
- Referring international students to appropriate support services
While Studying & Living in Melbourne
- Providing ongoing support and advice to current international students regarding welfare and wellbeing
- Providing information regarding visa and Overseas Student Health Cover related issues
- Updating and alerting international students regarding important information and programs
- Lobbying the University decision makers to maintain and improve the highest quality of services
- Coordinating and organising cultural events and activities for international students
- Providing volunteering opportunities for international students to get involved with our work within the University and in the Australian community
- Referring international students to appropriate support services
Returning Home
- Planning and running a Returning Home Program for international students finishing their studies and planning to return home
- Provide essential information for the international students to deal with many issues after graduations
- Encouraging international students to join the Alumni network
- Providing information on visa extensions
- Coordinating with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to run information sessions regarding skilled migration programs
- Organising farewell functions for study abroad and exchange students returning home
