Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE)
Students commencing on or after 1 January 2007 receive a standard CLE rate, regardless of if there are any family members in Australia.
Students commencing before 1 January 2007 are entitled to the family CLE rate if accompanied by dependants who hold an AusAID dependant visa.
The CLE is paid in arrears on the University's scheduled paydate every fortnight. It is paid into your nominated bank account. If you change your bank account or would like to have your CLE split and paid into separate bank accounts, contact an AusAID Student Contact Officer.
The CLE ceases five days after examination results are officially published for coursework students. For research students this is up to five days after the submission of your thesis.
APS students
The CLE is paid in arrears on the APS scheduled paydate every fortnight. It is paid into your nominated bank account. If you change your bank account, contact an AusAID Student Contact Officer immediately. Do not close your old bank account until you receive your CLE in the new bank account.

AusAID dependant visa
Family members who intend to stay with you while you are studying in Australia will need to apply for a student dependant visa. The AusAID office in your home country will be able to assist you with the application.
For international students, the term "family members" covers your spouse (including a de facto), unmarried dependent children under 18, and a fiancé whom you intend to marry within three months of arrival in Australia.
Generally, periods of stay granted to family members are the same as the student. For more information see AusAID students with family.
Tourist visa
Any relatives who plan to visit for a short time while you are studying in Australia will need to apply for a tourist visa. A supporting letter is not required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). However, you will be requested for a letter of invitation, written by you, inviting your family to visit. Refer to this sample invitation letter.
