All students are welcome; no bookings required. Sessions begin from Tuesday 20 May. Please especially note the Extending your stay in Australia session for those of you considering skilled migration.

ISS seeking volunteers
Are you returning home to Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand in June and interested in helping new students?
Then consider volunteering to assist in the University of Melbourne Pre-Departure Briefings in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok on the 28 and 29 June. This is a great opportunity to share your experiences with new students who have been accepted or individuals who are considering studying at The University of Melbourne.
Volunteers must attend ONE VOLUNTEER GROUP INTERVIEW which will be held on either:
- Wednesday 21 May, 1-2 pm at Alice Hoy 316
- Thursday 22 May, 1-2 pm at Alice Hoy 210
Please register online. Places are limited. Under Reason to Volunteer section, please also state which interview session that you can attend.
Your safety
We want you to be safe whilst you are studying here in Australia. Please read the following tips and go to the weblinks provided and familiarise yourself with ways to protect yourself and your friends.
- Water: ALWAYS swim between the flags and read the signs posted at the beach. Do not go into the water if you are unsure about what a rip or tide is, even if you are just wanting to soak your feet!
Water safety in Victoria - Fire: Please ensure you have working smoke detectors in your house. It is the responsibility of your landlord to install one and YOUR responsibility to check that it works (and change the batteries).
TIP: When daylight savings ends or starts: change the battery! (Daylight savings ends on Sunday 6 April).
Metropolitan Fire Brigade - Road: Remember to always cross at pedestrian crossings, look out for trams (they cannot swerve!) and that we drive on the left hand side of the road. If you are riding a bike, you must wear a helmet and pay close attention to cars (who get very nervous with cyclists on the road).
Vicroads
Transport Accident Commission
Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) - Community: Be alert and minimise your risk in your home and when you are out.
Victoria Police - Emergency Number: Ring 000 for Police, Fire, Ambulance (112 may also work from some mobile phones) University Security service: 8344 6666 (emergencies) or 8344 4674 (non-emergency)
