Research Students
Phd and graduate research students are expected to negotiate a course commencement date with their supervisor. Your arrival in Melbourne is expected to correspond with your commencement date.
To assist with your transition to Melbourne you are advised to arrive approximately two weeks before your recommended date of commencement to allow time to finalise your enrolment, find housing etc. Orientation activities are scheduled in February and July each year, if possible you are advised to arrive in time to attend the activities held at those times.
If you are able to attend the Enrolment and Orientation Program, please visit the Transition and Orientation Programs website.
If your arrival in Melbourne does not coincide with Orientation and Enrolment activities, you may register for arrival assistance from a student mentor.

What if I am arriving at a different time of year to Orientation?
If you are a graduate student unable to attend Orientation, please register to receive on-arrival assistance from one of our trained student mentors.
Student mentors can provide you with detailed information and answer your questions regarding university life (e.g enrolment, support services) and living in Melbourne (e.g accommodation advice, finding facilities such as post office, banks). Your mentor will not find accommodation for you, but will offer advice on locating housing, explaining rental procedures and other issues affecting your choice of accommodation.
Please note: This program is intended for graduate students who are unable to participate in the Orientation program. Assistance for all other students is available via the Welcome Centre.
