Changing to another course
If you wish to change to another course within the University of Melbounre after you have commenced your studies, you must complete an internal transfer application. The University is required to inform the Department of Immigration (DIAC) when holders of a student visa change to a different course. This may affect their student visa.
How do I apply for a transfer to another course?
Step 1 |
Discuss your eligibility for admission with a Student Adviser at the Student Centre for the course you would like to transfer to. |
Step 2 |
Apply to transfer to another course via Student Information System or download a Course Change form [PDF 27KB] and submit it to the faculty that administers the new course. |
Step 3 |
Upon acceptance in the new course, you must discontinue your enrolment in the old course. |
What are the implications for my student visa?
After you have transferred to your new course, you will receive a new Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). The University will notify DIAC of the changes in your enrolment, however please note that:
- If your student visa is valid for the duration of your new course, you do not need to apply for a new visa, however:
- If your course ends before November, you can remain in Australia on your current visa for two months after the course end date.
- If your course ends in November or December, you can remain in Australia on your current visa until 15 March of the following year.
- If your student visa is only valid for part of the duration of your new course, you should renew your student visa within three months before it expires.
- If you have transferred to a coursework degree and you hold a Student (Postgraduate Research) visa (Subclass 574), you must apply for a new Student (Higher Education) visa (Subclass 573) after you receive your new COE
- If you have transferred to to a research degree course and you hold a Student (Higher Education) visa (Subclass 573), you must apply for a new Student (Postgraduate Research) visa (Subclass 574) after you receive your new COE .
