Transfer after six months
Background
If you have accepted an offer of place and received a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) from the University of Melbourne, you can only transfer to another education provider before completing six months of your principal course in limited circumstances. After you have completed the first six months of your principle course, you do not need to seek permission to change to another provider.
What is my principal course?
If you are granted a student visa based on multiple courses or packaged courses, your principal course is the last course for which your visa is granted.
Transfer within six months
You can only transfer to another education provider before completing six months of your principal course in the following circumstances:
- You have obtained a Letter of Release from the University. The application process and circumstance in which the University can issue a Letter of Release are outlined in the University’s International Student Transfer Policy.
- You are a government sponsored student and your sponsor has agreed in writing with the transfer to another provider.
- The course for which have received a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) ceased to be offered by the University and ceased to be registered on CRICOS.
If your transfer to another provider is successful, you may need to renew your current visa or apply for a new student visa if your new course is in a different education sector. Please contact the Department of Immigration (DIAC) for further advice on your student visa options.
Transfer after six months
If you wish to transfer to another provider after you have completed six months of your principal course, you do not need to seek permission from the University. However it is a condition of your student visa to inform the University that you have changed to another provider and discontinue your course.
