Keep Australia Beautiful Week: Save the World. Start at Home. 25-31 August, 2008
Keep Australia Beautiful Week was developed by the national Keep Australia Beautiful organisation to help focus and remind the public of what they can do in their daily lives to help improve and preserve their local environment. The aim of the campaign is to demonstrate the easy ways you can help the environment and also save money by making a few simple changes around the home and in your daily lives.

Community Inclusion for the Disabled in Victoria

Youth Change Makers
To support individuals and small groups of young people who have identified an issue in their community and have developed an advocacy response which aims to take action that creates a positive impact and/or change in relation to that issue. Youth Change Makers grants will support projects up to $10,000 per applicant group.

Emergency Grant to Replace Essential Sports Equipment
To provide assistance to local sport and active recreation clubs and organisations to replace essential sports equipment that has been lost or destroyed as a consequence of fire, flood, significant storm event, theft or criminal damage. Up to $2,000 available.

National Conference on Volunteering, 3-5 September, 2008
The 12th National Conference on Volunteering: Catch the New Waves, will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland on 3-5 September 2008, and will explore the current and emerging trends in volunteering. The Conference provides a timely opportunity to reflect and explore the role that volunteering will play in Australian society in the 21st century and discuss its relevance to the topical issues of social capital, community capacity building and corporate social responsibility.

National Volunteering Research Symposium - Call for Abstracts
Volunteering Australia will host the Second National Volunteering Research Symposium, in conjunction with the 12th National Conference on Volunteering, bringing together researchers with a strong and demonstrated research interest in the field of volunteering.
The event to be held on 2 September, 2008 presents a unique opportunity for researchers to share their work with fellow researchers and to discuss the practice, priorities and possibilities of research for the advancement of volunteering.
Volunteering Australia invites proposals on both completed and current research from both academics as well as postgraduate students (Honours, Masters and PhD students) currently pursuing research into volunteering related issues.

Intervarsity Summit on Australia's Role in Ending Extreme Poverty, 10-11 October, 2008
An Intervarsity Summit on Australia's Role in Ending Extreme Poverty (ISAREEP) to be held at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) on 10-11 October 2008, aims to create a unified national student voice about Australia's role in the eradication of poverty.
This initiative was devised by the 40K Home Foundation, an Australian based youth-focused NGO currently executing an eco-development project in India.
ISAREEP is inviting 300 student delegates from 47 universities across Australia and our neighbours in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands to attend. Additionally, there will be 100 specialist advisors from the Australian Government, the Australian NGO Community, and the Australian Corporate Sector.
Over the two days of summiting, the delegates will be exposed to four keynote addresses, focus sessions and small-group discussions. If you would like to partipate in the summit or would like more information visit ISAREEP '08. To register your interest contact Ali Kassem at akassem@unimelb.edu.au.
Our Community Photo Bank Competition
Our Community and Australia Post are working together to build up a gallery of photos that show the full extent of Australia's communities and the people who work with them. A total of $5000 in cash prizes is available for photographers who upload images to the Photo Bank, and their nominated community groups. There are two prizes - one for the most popular photo, and another for the photo that best exemplifies the work of Australian community.
The competition is open until October 22, but photos will remain on the Photo Bank
indefinitely.

Show off your Community in the "My Street" competition!
ABC Radio National is holding a competition to unearth some great stories about Australian communities as part of its Street Stories program. People throughout Australia are being invited to tell the tale of their street using video, audio, images and/or text. The story can be recorded on a mobile phone, an MP3 player, a video or digital camera, or it could be a written description or a series of photos with captions.
Entries will be uploaded onto the Radio National website and the producer of the best story will have the opportunity to work with ABC Radio to have their story broadcast on Radio National's Street Stories program.
