Organisation: People Outdoors

Why did you get involved in People Outdoors?

Because they believe in "Adventure for all". People Outdoors provides children, teenagers and adults with disabilities with the opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure programs. They also work with individuals who have a physical/intellectual or acquired brain injury.

What does your volunteering with People Outdoors involve?

Attending camps where I help people with disabilities get involved in activities and have fun. I also helped them get changed, shower and eat.

How have you benefited from the experience?

The experience exceeded my expectations. I thought my role as a volunteer was to spend time with the campers and show them a good time but in actual fact it was the campers that showed me a good time. They always had a smile on their faces and I felt happy just being around them. I cannot think of anyone who let their disability prevent them from having fun and doing an activity. My experience motivated me to get more involved with the organisation and I am looking foward to doing some more volunteer work with People Outdoors in the future.
