LIVE Community Volunteer Fair 2008
A Community Volunteer Fair organised by the University of Melbourne's new LIVE Unit (Leadership, Involvement & Volunteer Experience) recently gave staff and students an opportunity to connect with diverse local, national and international not-for-profit community organisations.
Among the 70 participating organisations were World Vision, Oxfam Australia, Australian Red Cross, Starlight Children's Foundation, The Smith Family, People Outdoors, Conservation Volunteers Australia and Engineers without Borders.
Held in the week prior to National Volunteer Week, the Fair provided students with a unique opportunity to connect with a diverse mix of not-for-profit community organisations and explore a variety of opportunities for contributing their time, energy and skills to the community.
Professor Sue Elliot who opened the Fair and welcomed participating organizations, also spoke about the importance of volunteering in the contemporary world and said, "It is fundamental to many aspects of community life and it involves many people".
