Eligibility
To be considered for an IPCA, applicants need to have an unconditional course offer* in one of the postgraduate coursework programs listed below.
- Doctorate by coursework in the faculty of:
- Masters by coursework in the faculties of:
- Architecture, Building and Planning
- Economics and Commerce
- Education
- Engineering
- Melbourne School of Land and Environment
- Law
- Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences
- Music
- Science
- Graduate diploma in the faculties of:

*The receipt of an unconditional course offer includes meeting the University's English language requirements. Please see information on English language requirements.
Furthermore, applicants will only be considered for an IPCA if they:
- are commencing study at the University of Melbourne for the first time in the year for which the IPCA is offered
- are a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia
- are not in receipt of any other tuition fee scholarship the value of which, in combination with the IPCA, exceeds the tuition fees, and
- have not been supported in the last 2 years by a scholarship provided by AusAID.
Applicants must comply with any contractual obligations owed to an employer or sponsor (eg AusAID), in particular, those obligations relating to the period to be spent in the home country following completion of undergraduate studies.
Selection
Selection of IPCA scholarship recipients is highly competitive and is based on academic merit and determined by individual faculties.
Timeline
Selection is usually made in December or January but is determined by individual faculties.
Application Process
- Normally, an IPCA will only be awarded to an eligible applicant who applies for a place in one of the eligible courses on or before October 31st.
- Applicants do not need to complete any additional forms
- All international students commencing one of the eligible University coursework programs on a full fee paying basis will be considered automatically.
Outcome
Successful students will be mailed an offer letter at the beginning of Semester 1.
Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.
Deferring
It is only possible to defer scholarship commencement if the University considers there are exceptional reasons for doing so. If deferral is granted, recipients are ineligible subsequently to take up the scholarship if they enrol at another university during the period of deferral.
