Dependent upon funding. Usually approximately 30-40 scholarships are awarded to Study Abroad students and approximately 100 are awarded to Exchange students.
Please note that Exchange students are automatically considered for a Melbourne Global Scholarship but funds are not guaranteed.

Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars (KLDYS)
KLDYS going on Exchange or Study Abroad from their second year will automatically get one Melbourne Global Scholarship to the value of $2500. Please indicate on the Exchange/Study Abroad form available at your student centre that you are a KLDYS. See Application Process KLDYS with a weighted average above the cut-off for Melbourne Global Scholarships may not receive an additional Melbourne Global Scholarship, however they may apply for Melbourne Global Financial Assistance if applicable. KLDYS who are studying a language may compete for a Melbourne Global Languages Scholarship on the same basis as other language students in addition to receiving a Melbourne Global scholarship.
Eligibility
To be eligible to be considered for a scholarship, all students must:
- be accepted into the University's Exchange Program or undertaking an independently organised study program or a University of Melbourne subject overseas
- be receiving faculty credit for their overseas study program
- be studying overseas full time
- have achieved a minimum 70% weighted grade point average over their course. If the applicant has done 2 degrees or courses only the current course will be taken into consideration including any credits from the previous course
- have completed a certain number of points in their current course:
exchange students must have completed 50 points,
study abroad students must have completed 75 points and graduate coursework students must have completed 50 points.
Graduate research students are not eligible for this scholarship and should instead investigate travel funding options through the Graduate Research Scholarships webpage. - not have already received a Melbourne Global Scholarship for Exchange, Study Abroad or School of Languages;
- not have already been awarded the Master of International Politics (M.I.P.) overseas grant;
- not be travelling to a country for which the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) advises 'against all travel' or 'reconsider your need to travel'. Check the DFAT website.If students want to appeal this rule, they must apply to the Vice Principal and Academic Registrar for a waiver and attach the outcome letter to their application. Applications without a waiver will not be considered.

Selection is based on academic merit.

Payment
In addition to submitting your acceptance, before payment can be made into your bank account you must have your enrolment record updated by your Student Centre/s to show your study abroad subject for credit, or leave of absence due to study abroad. You can check this on your student portal
Please note: you can accept your offer in the meantime, a and your enrolment record will be updated in due course. Also, if you are attending a U21 institution a U21 Bonus offer letter will be emailed to you.

Deferring your scholarship
Students awarded a Melbourne Global Scholarship in a previous round who deferred their overseas study will be considered under the guidelines of the round for which they are currently applying. There is no guarantee they will receive a scholarship.
