Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program
About the Program
The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed to support high-achieving Victorian secondary school and select New South Wales and South Australian Year 11 and 12 border school students. The program offers numerous opportunities for students to interact with the University and each other, with substantial benefits for students who subsequently enrol at the University of Melbourne.
The program is named in honour of the eminent scholar, leading educationalist and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne: Professor Kwong Lee Dow.

Scholarships
Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars (KLDYS) who need to move to Melbourne from interstate or a rural area may be eligible for a relocation allowance to assist with costs of settling in Melbourne. All KLDYS who go on exchange in second or third year are eligible to receive a Melbourne Global Mobility Scholarship.

*The Melbourne Global Mobility Scholarship is payable in second or third year of University study to enable participation in an International Mobility program during their studies at the University of Melbourne.
Eligibility
Eligible students must:
- have been nominated for the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program by their school principals, based on academic merit and outstanding achievement.
- be offered a course place at the University of Melbourne
- for the Relocation Allowance
- be from interstate or within one of the Victorian Government's designated rural areas to be eligible for a relocation allowance to assist with costs of settling in Melbourne. Please visit the Local Government Victoria's Department of Planning and Community Development website to identify Victorian councils which are zoned as rural.
- for the Melbourne Global Mobility Scholarship
- have approval to study overseas for credit towards their University of Melbourne degree, either through the Exchange Program or as a study abroad student.
Selection
Those Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars who meet the eligibility criteria will automatically be selected for the Relocation Allowance.

Timeline
KLDYS from interstate or eligible rural areas who receive a course place at the start of the year, will be considered for a relocation allowance.
Outcome
KLDYS who are eligible for a Relocation Allowance will be notified of the allowance offer by mail before they commence their course.
Deferring your scholarship
- If you want to defer your scholarship, you must first check with your faculty regarding their course place deferral policy.
- You will only be permitted to defer your scholarship if you are permitted to defer your course place. Go to www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/ugrad/offer/deferpolicy for up-to-date information.
- If you are approved by your faculty to defer your course place, you must first accept the scholarship offer before you submit a request to defer the start date of your scholarship for one year
