Centrelink Information
- Generally, scholarships that provide remission or exemption from fees and/or HECS are not regarded as income for Centrelink purposes. However, an allowance of any kind paid directly to a student is likely to be regarded as income except for Commonwealth Scholarships for social security purposes.
- Students who are applying to Centrelink for income support should seek further advice from the University Financial Aid Service at http://www.services.unimelb.edu.au/finaid/ or from Centrelink at http://www.centrelink.gov.au/. Information about how Centrelink treats scholarships is also available from Centrelink's Youth, Student and Austudy Hotline on 132 490.
- Please keep a copy of your offer letter and Terms and Conditions booklet because they detail the benefits of your scholarship.
