Message from the Vice Chancellor
In planning the Melbourne Model, the focus from the start has been on access and equity - on making sure the university is fiercely meritocratic, committed to supporting excellence - and accessible to the best and brightest students regardless of circumstances.
That is why when we launched the Melbourne Model on April 17 this year, we also announced the most ambitious program of new student scholarships in the history of this institution - and, we suspect, this nation. The Melbourne Scholarship Program invests over $100 million over the next three years, to ensure more than 8,000 students benefit from financial and tuition support.
Our ambition at the University of Melbourne is to attract the best and brightest students, regardless of their financial circumstances, and to offer them an education equal to any in the world.
Access and equity are integral to the Melbourne Model. We cannot call ourselves a great university unless we provide opportunities and support to the most capable of students.
