Campus Location Oddities
There are some unusual names for University of Melbourne venues. Don't get confused by knowing the following facts!
- Redmond Barry & Richard Berry buildings:
There is a building called Redmond Barry, and another called Richard Berry.
Redmond Barry is located in the northeast corner of campus. You can't miss it as it is the tallest builing on campus
Richard Berry is home to the Maths Department and is located between Masson Road, Monash Road and Swanston St. It is constructed from red (berry colored?) bricks.
- Old Arts & Arts Centre:
The Old Arts building and the Arts Centre building are not the same place.
Old Arts is the yellow sandstone building on the North side of South Lawn.
The Arts Centre is a tallish building right on the corner of Swanston and Grattan Streets.
- Arts Hall:
Arts Hall is actually located in the Old Arts building.
- Old Physics and Physics:
The Old Physics building and the Physics building are not the same place.
Old Physics is located in the middle of campus on the south side of the Union building.
The Physics building is located on the north east corner of campus on Swanston St.
- Thomas Cherry Theatre & Building:
The Thomas Cherry Theatre is not located in the Thomas Cherry Building.
The Thomas Cherry Theatre is actually located in the Microbiology building on Royal Parade in the Medical Precinct of campus.
The Thomas Cherry Building is located on the other side of the Swanston St footbridge from Physics.
- Public Lecture and Public Policy Theatres:
The Public Lecture Theatre and the Public Policy theatre are two separate venues.
The Public Lecture Theatre (PLT) is located in the Old Arts builing on the north side of South Lawn.
The Public Policy Theatre is located at 234 Queensberry St on the southern edge of campus.
