Accept your offer
Once you have received an offer to study at the University of Melbourne, accepting your offer and completing the administrative enrolment steps are completed via a University website.

How do I accept my offer?
You will be sent or given an enrolment pack from the University which includes an Enrolment Instruction Sheet (226kb) and log in details. To accept your offer you must log in to the University website and respond to your offer. The respond to offer screen provides you with three options: to accept, decline or indicate you would like to defer your offer.
What if I want to defer my offer?
Australian students can indicate that they would like to defer their offer for a year (and commence in 2009). Deferrals are not granted automatically and will not be granted to allow the commencement of another tertiary course.
In order to apply for a deferral you must:
- Check the University's Deferral Policy to confirm that the course you have been offered a place in will accept an application to defer (not all courses allow deferrals).
- Log in to the University's online enrolment system and respond to your offer. The 'respond to offer' screen provides you with the option to indicate that you would like to defer your offer.
- After completing steps 1 and 2, ensure that you also submit your University of Melbourne deferral application.
You will receive written notification of the outcome of your deferral application. If your application to defer is not approved you must accept your offer (as above) and enrol for 2008.
What happens if I don't accept or defer my offer?
If you do not accept your offer and complete the enrolment process (or don't indicate your intention to defer your offer) by the enrolment expiry date, your offer will lapse and the University will offer your place to another student.
What if I receive two offers?
If you receive two offers (one for a Commonwealth Supported place and one for an Australian Full Fee place) you need to decide which course you wish to study, and then accept your offer for that course. You should read information on the different kinds of Australian student tuition fees before making your decision.
You should also decline the offer for the other course; however this offer will lapse anyway if you take no action.
What is the difference between a Commonwealth Supported Place and an Australian Fee place?
Commonwealth Supported Place
- Government subsidised.
- Student pays partial tuition costs back to government.
- Student contribution can be deferred and repaid through the taxation system (HECS-HELP).
- Annual amount of student contribution depends upon subjects studied.
Australian Fee Place
- Places are offered in addition to government subsidised places.
- Students pay entire tuition cost direct to the University.
- May be eligible for FEE-HELP, a government loan scheme that allows students to defer the cost.
- Typical tuition fees are available on the Future Students website.
- Minimum academic standards apply.
- Potential to transfer to a CSP during the course - students who achieve a cumulative average of 75% over at least 100 points are entitled to transfer to a Commonwealth supported place in the same course.

What if I have not received an offer?
If you weren't made a Round One offer at all, or if you weren't made an offer for your highest preference you will still be eligible for a Round Two offer.
The University aims to fill its places in Round One and therefore we do not anticipate making many, if any, Round Two offers.
You are advised to accept your Round One offer if you have been made one. If you are made another offer in Round Two you can discontinue the course in which you have already enrolled and accept your new offer.
What if I want to be considered for another course? (Irregular offer)
Irregular offers are available for a range of undergraduate courses commencing in 2008. They are available for Commonwealth Supported Places in selected courses, as well as Australian fee places. Irregular offers allow you to be considered for a University of Melbourne course that was lower on your VTAC preference list than the offer you received or wasn't originally included. For further information please check the guide to irregular offers 2008.
