It's important to know which area of the University is responsible for the administration of your degree. This will make it easier when it comes time to fill out forms for leave or completion, or when you have to get administrative information or advice.

Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters Preliminary, Masters by Coursework
All of these courses are administered by the faculty or graduate school. If you need to alter your enrolment (e.g. from full-time to part-time), change subjects, apply for Special Consideration, take leave of absence or discontinue your course, see your Student Centre.

Faculties will have a Graduate Coordinator or Graduate Team to deal specifically with graduate enquiries, though the Student Centre front office staff will also be able to help you and refer you to the right people.

If you need to apply for an extension for an assignment, or get information about a specific subject, see your tutor or lecturer for that subject. There should also be a Course Coordinator, located in the department where the subjects are taught from, to handle your general queries about or problems with the course.

Masters degree by research (all except Science)
These courses are also administered by the faculty. Instead of a Course Coordinator, there will be a departmental Graduate Coordinator who can assist you with general queries about your course and supervision. Applications for extension need to be made through the faculty. Your supervisor can assist you with the correct procedures.

Masters degree by research in Science (MSc) and PhD
The School of Graduate Research (SGR) administers the Masters in Science and the PhD. All important forms and contacts are through the School's main office in the Graduate Centre. Your supervisor is also an important source of information about procedures and guidelines, as is the Graduate Coordinator in your department.

Studying off campus?
If you are studying at an institution which is not a campus of the University, for example a hospital or other facility, you should also keep in touch with the department, faculty or graduate school with responsibility for the degree. Contacts for the site you are based at will depend on the organisation and how it communicates with the University. Make sure you ask, from the beginning, who you should see if you are having difficulties.
