Credit

Can I receive credit for my Extension Program studies towards a degree?

If you successfully complete an Extension Program subject, and then enrol in a University of Melbourne degree, you may be granted credit for that study if your subjects can be taken as part of that degree. Completion of Extension Program subjects will be regarded in the same way as if you completed those studies as a first-year student of the University.

What are the benefits of credit?

Credit can give you a head start with your tertiary studies, by allowing you to enrol in advanced or second-year level subjects in the first year of your degree. Alternatively you may choose to take a lighter study load at some stage during your course. You might also consider seeking exemptions for your Extension Program subjects (especially in degrees where the subjects you have studied via the Extension Program are compulsory in that degree). This allows you to choose additional subjects in place of the subjects you have already completed, thus broadening the scope of your degree.

Who determines what credit I receive?

The amount of credit that will be granted will be determined individually by each course according to the relevant credit policy.  Further details will be available later in 2007.

Can I receive credit for my Extension Program studies at another institution?

Many other universities grant credit for Extension Program studies. You will need to contact the institutions you are interested in attending for details of their credit policy.
