ENTER Increment

Satisfactory completion of a full year of Extension Program studies can be used as a sixth study in the calculation of your ENTER.

To receive an increment, you must successfully complete a full year of your Extension Program subject. You must also complete at least five permissible VCE studies – these studies will contribute the first five results towards your ENTER aggregate.

The University of Melbourne calculates your “pass level” once results for all students are known, and forwards this information to VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority). VCAA confirms the results as an Approved Extension Studies result and forwards it to VTAC together with your VCE results.

Each Extension Program “pass level” has a maximum increment associated with it. This increment is added to your ENTER aggregate (the raw score that is used in the calculation of your final ENTER).

The “pass level” is based on your percentile ranking ie, your place in the rank of all students (both Extension Program and first year university students) enrolled in your subject. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that your mark corresponds directly to your percentile ranking (eg that a mark of 70 automatically puts you in the 70th percentile) – it is your place in the rank of all students that determines the maximum value of the associated increment.

The increment that you have been awarded will be stated in the ENTER and Results Statement you receive once you have satisfied the requirements of the VCE.

Please Note: The calculation of the Increment for Extension Program IB students will change from 2007.

International Baccalaureate (IB) students completing Extension Program studies will be treated in a similar manner to VCE students. Given that the IB score is based on six results, the increment to the Notional ENTER is calculated differently. The University uses an annually updated combined conversion table, based on a methodology agreed to by the Australasian Conference of Tertiary Admissions Centres (ACTAC). This VTAC document gives the 2007 Notional ENTERs corresponding to the various passing IB scores both with and without a successfully completed Victorian University Extension Study at the appropriate level.

Important Note: A student who withdraws from or fails to satisfactorily complete the prerequisite or preparatory VCE subject/s for an Extension Program subject area will not be eligible for an extension study increment in their ENTER calculation at the end of the year, regardless of their performance in their university studies.
