Selection criteria for Music applicants:

In addition to the eligibility criteria detailed above, Extension Program Music students must possess exceptional ability, well above the Faculty of Music's entrance audition standard (usually a B at AMEB Grade 7). Examples of exceptional achievement used as selection criteria include:

  • A student who has passed an L Mus A with distinction
  • A student who has been a finalist in a national competition (eg ABC Young Performers Award)
  • A student who has appeared professionally as a soloist with a major concert promoter (eg the ABC, Musica Viva).

Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their music teacher outlining their aptitude and achievements. If the letter of recommendation indicates that the applicant is of an appropriate standard, the applicant will be invited to an audition at the Faculty of Music in late November/early December. Successful audition applicants, who also achieve the required B+ average grades in their other studies, will be offered a place in the Extension Program. Applications for Extension Program Music close on Wednesday 31 October 2007.

International Baccalaureate (IB) applicants should contact the University of Melbourne Extension Program directly for prerequisite studies information.
