Indonesian (second language) - 2008Indonesian Level 2A and Indonesian Level 2BIntroductionThis subject explores the language and culture of one of Australia’s closest and most important neighbours. As with English, Indonesian is written in Roman script and has a simple spelling system. The subject provides you with the opportunity to study the language at an advanced level. You will also examine the country’s current complex political situation in depth and be introduced to modern Indonesian literature. Career OpportunitiesWith modern developments in technology and communications, Indonesians and Australians are interacting with increasing frequency through business and tourism and the two nations are becoming ever more economically interdependent. Students from a variety of disciplines will benefit in their future careers from knowledge of the language and culture of this dynamic neighbouring nation, particularly in fields related to business, education, tourism and communications. VCE PrerequisitesCompletion of Indonesian (Second Language) 3/4 in Year 11 or equivalent. All eligible applicants will be required to attend an interview and sit a test. For applicants who have not completed Indonesian 3/4 this will determine whether their proficiency is equivalent to Unit 3/4 level. Students must obtain an A/A+ average in Indonesian, and a B+ average across non prerequisite subjects. Teaching LocationAll classes are taught at the University of Melbourne.
