Psychology - 2008Mind, Brain and Behaviour 1 and Mind, Brain and Behaviour 2IntroductionThe scientific study of behaviour is the broad domain of psychology. Most areas of human behaviour have been studied at some time by psychologists. The study program of these two subjects provides an introduction to this huge field of knowledge and is the first step towards a career as a Psychologist. ObjectivesThe topics covered in these subjects will introduce you to some of the main content areas and the different ways that psychologists study human behaviour. An important emphasis in these courses is that you learn some of the basic skills which are characteristic of psychology as a scientific study of behaviour. These include an appreciation of the design of psychological research, data analysis, report writing and a critical approach to reading psychological literature. Career OpportunitiesPsychologists are employed in a number of specialised areas. These include: academic psychology; clinical psychology; clinical neuropsychology; community psychology; counselling psychology; educational psychology; forensic psychology; health psychology; organisational/industrial psychology or sport psychology. VCE PrerequisitesCompletion of Psychology 3/4 in Year 11; or enrolment in the same in Year 12 after completion of Psychology 1/2. Students must obtain an A/A+ average in Psychology, and an A average across non prerequisite subjects. Teaching LocationAll classes are taught at the University of Melbourne.
