Public Lectures at the University

The University of Melbourne hosts a selection of public lectures by prominent local, national and international speakers. The content of the lectures is selected for general interest and accessibility.

These lectures are free and open to the general public.

How to Arrange & Run a Public Lecture

Public lectures can only be booked by University faculties, departments and affiliated organisations.

Please note that the cost of building supervision for public lectures is not automatically covered by Property and Campus Services. As such, it is recommended that you read through the Cost Assistance Policy [PDF, 16kb] for public lectures before booking a venue.

Once you have booked an appropriate venue, you should arrange for the lecture to be included on the University's Free Public Lecture bulletin by completing the Application for Promotional Support form [PDF, 76kb]. This bulletin is compiled by the Community Relations Officer and is distributed to the general public, thus ensuring that the wider community can better access the public lecture program and assisting the faculties and departments in promoting their lectures.

Please note that your department will be considered responsible for all costs in relation to your booking until you have completed the promotional support form and your lecture appears on the Free Public Lecture bulletin. We therefore recommend that you apply to have your event listed as a Free Public Lecture as early as possible.

Queries regarding public lectures should be directed to staff within Protocol and Events, as follows:
